A modern M.2 SSD in connection with the NVMe protocol delivers impressive data transfer speeds. Such enormous performance naturally produces waste heat, which can even throttle the transfer rate of the memory under certain circumstances. It therefore makes perfect sense to additionally cool M.2 SSDs. The passive cooler SST-TP02-M2 from SilverStone is intended for M.2 SSDs and is compatible with size 2280 (width 22 mm, length 80 mm) . It can be used to efficiently cool an M.2 SSD to low operating temperatures. The passive heat sink is made of black anodized aluminum and is mounted directly onto the adapter card using a thermal pad and two silicone strips. A total of three thermal pads are included in the packaging. The blue one is attached to the heatsink. The two gray thermal pads are 1 millimeter and 1.5 millimeters thick respectively. The former is for double-sided M.2s, the latter for single-sided memory cards. This heatsink has been tested for optimal functionality with Intel's 760p series as well as the 960 EVO and PRO, 970 EVO and PRO and SM951 and SM961 from Samsung. However , the SST-TP02-M2 is compatible with all common M.2 SSDs in 2280 format.
